The first stage Josh encountered was the one he imagined in his living room, with a bay window for a backdrop and his mother’s drapes for a curtain. To a small audience of kin, Josh did his darndest to amaze, ignite, and entertain his familial crowd. But since his father is a jazz guitarist, his mother a singer, and grandmother a classical violinist, this was no small feat. At the age of nine he started training in dance, and was cast as the orphaned workhouse boy, Oliver, where his voice on “Where is Love?” stirred the audiences of Fairfield County. From their he joined the renowned Fairfield Country Children’s Choir Chamber Singers, where he was privileged to tour Washington D.C. and Canada and perform with the Connecticut Grand Opera working with Charles Strouse and Barbara Simon, and at Carnegie Hall. With the FCCC, he stood out as a performer, especially during the vocal jazz sections as a scat soloist. When high school rolled around, he was cast as a freshman as Freddie Trumper in CHESS, Willard in FOOTLOOSE and many other roles. He then went on to play Marius in the CT World Premiere of Les Miserables, under the direction of Gary and Francesca Scarpa. His senior year he was blessed with the opportunity to perform as Tommy in Rob Kennedy’s mounting of THE WHO’S TOMMY, the show that signaled his departure from the small town to the big city. In College in Manhattan, Josh was first exposed to the acting methods of Stanisklavski and Boleslavsky, through Debra Wiley Hart, who was an adjunct professor at Marymount Manhattan College. Impressed and challenged, Josh realized there was certainly more to learn and has since dedicated much effort to unearthing the complexity of human behavior to better portray characters in plays, screenplays, and teleplays alike. By chance, he met Julia Rand, an acolyte of the late Uta Hagen, who now serves as his private acting coach. In May 2008, Josh graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Arts from Marymount Manhattan College. Josh is a member of Actors’ Equity Association and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists He is trying to get by on both coasts, and resides on random couches throughout America. |
